On the 3rd floor of Anderson Tower lives a unique group of people. We are the Computer Interest Floor, a special interest housing group at the University of Rochester whose interests and activities are as diverse and numerous as our members. With a history going back to 1983, we’re just as involved and dedicated to the university community as when we provided some of the few computing resources on campus.
Following the latest board elections, the new tech directors have proposed many changes to the lab. Most notably to general membership, a website and lab account rewrite.
What does this mean for you? You will have to create a new lab account once the upgrade has been completed if you want to retain lab access. You will also have to agree to an updated acceptable use policy. We will be sending emails out as soon as the upgrade rolls out.
As there will inevitably be bugs as the rollout of the upgrade begins, please submit a ticket in our Github Repository whenever an issue is encountered. There, you can also track progress on the site.
Lab Software Additions
With our new Microsoft App-V server now in place, new software will be coming to the CIF Lab over the coming weeks. As of now, the following programs are now available:
ModelSim (Intel FPGA Starter Edition)
More software will be added soon, so stay tuned!
CIF Web Server Upgraded
We have just completed significant upgrades to our Web server. It is now running on much newer hardware, and the software configuration has been cleaned up. The functionality of the site should be the same as before, but if you experience any issues, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org so we can fix them!
