Board Meeting Minutes

October 6th, 2019

In attendance: Board, Liam, Isabel, Jack, Lloyd, Jason

  • Need to find a time to hold the disciplinary meeting
    • Make a list of times that work for board and send to him to choose
    • Potentially 4:30 pm on Friday, 5 pm Thursday
    • Potentials next week: 5 pm Thursday the 17th
  • King of Games: Ian
  • Lab Lord: Richard
  • SIH Weekend: Nov 8-10
    • Collaborative event Sun, Nov 10, 12-5pm Welles Brown Room (“study break”)
    • Borrowing games from URSGA to bring to the event (Tommy)
    • Standard game night probably on Saturday, Nov 9 (want to pick a theme)
    • Could do a Meet CIF before game night (Tommy); get pizza for game night (Austin)
    • Could get Costco pizza (Tommy)
  • Need time for the next tech seminar on R (or plan the seminar after that for SIH weekend)
    • CS career workshop talk? (Austin) – get career center to cosponsor (Lloyd) or WIC (Austin)
    • Course selection help right before registration (Jason)
    • Want the talk to likely be before advising week, which is going to be too soon (might want to do this in spring semester instead)
  • Next floor meeting Sunday, Oct 20
  • Remove voting abilities from people who have missed more than 3 floor meetings?
    • Moot point for associates as floor meetings are not required for them (Josh)
  • Send an email to associates who have not attended anything so far this semester (Tommy)
    • Ask if they want to retain membership
    • Could word it as “reply if you want to keep membership” or “reply if you want to remove membership” (Tommy)
    • People who don’t attend might not check emails anymore (Josh)
    • Constitutionally we should do the latter (opt-out) (Austin)
    • “Respond back if you want to stay on our mailing list”? (Jason)
    • Could do a “respond back to opt in OR opt out” and try to get a response from everyone (Tommy)
    • Could have “inactive vs active” members rather than automatically removing people when they don’t attend (Jack)
  • Proposed amendment to the constitution: 13.1: “An amendment may replace this constitution with a new document” – change to “may not”

The Constitution has been ratified. Co-Presidency is now official and associates no longer exist.

They are due on 03/18. All full members must pay $25 in dues.
Upcoming events: Unix Tech seminar: 02/03 likely at Douglass 404 at 2Pm.
Codenames form will be released soon.

November 13th, 2022

Upcoming Events:

  • CIFGiving (11/19): We need more people to bring food/related items, and are giving out points per item brought!
  • SIH Winterfest (Dec 4): We will need people to table/present, and of course, simply show up
  • CIF-Greenspace Collab (11/18, 3:30-5): Please show up if you are at all interested in sustainable technology (there will also be a CS related talk)!

October 30th, 2022

Upcoming Events:

  • Tech Seminar coming up on the 12th, will be on LaTeX  (time/location TBD)
  • Minecraft Night coming up
  • CIFGiving coming up later on (please fill out the RSVP form), and volunteer to bring things

Election/Nominations

  • Positions up for nominations include Co-Presidents (one person can nominate themselves although 2 are encouraged), Logistics, Junior Tech Director, and Secretary-Treasurer
  • Elections will be happening on the 13th (the next floor meeting)
  • Even if you are not running, it’s important to attend
  • Nominees will have to pass an easy constitution quiz (probably open book) if they are elected
  • New officers will have the support of previous board members with many years of experience (called Shadowboard)
  • If you want to nominate yourself, please reach out to Board and notify Sarah if possible so you can be added to the list of candidates
  • Currently, there are no nominees for Presidents

October 16th, 2022

      • Alex will be hosting a lab event dealing with the sound system on Saturday, time tbd

      • Food and Drinks will be provided
      • Open to everyone, will be cosponsored by URSGA and the Video Game Development Club
      • If you are interested in dressing up for the Halloween Game Night, feel free to do so

    • They are in two weeks, so if you are possibly interested in running for a position, keep that in mind
    • Nominations for Officer Positions begin on October 30th

  • Greenspace Cosponsorship
    • Greenspace is looking to do an event with CIF, possibly on the 5th of November

October 2nd, 2022

      • More busy on Tuesday but otherwise not super busy
      • She likes windmills both modern and old-fashioned
  • Cole goes next
    • He can complain and will complain to make CIF better
    • Will ask for little screwdrivers and textbooks that are not older than himself
    • Textbook to classes CIF members are taking
    • If a printer breaks down, Cole will have the tech directors fix it
    • Cole thinks windmills are good, all the best kind, the ones that are giants
    • Cole will fistfight a windmill at Waffle House
    • His schedule:
      • 4 classes, most free on Monday, Weds., Fridays and most of the weekend

    • Philosophical discourse on the meaning of treasury, money, and how trustworthy of money. Money is meaningless and thus Nikhil can be trusted with it

    • Pretty much, this amendment formalizes existing policy.

    • Dan suggests adding the option for board to mediate a mutually agreed on community standards agreement without a disciplinary hearing involved.
